Rose Napaltjarri James was born c.1975 near Kiwirrkura in Western Australia's Gibson Desert. She is the daughter of highly acclaimed Western Desert artist George "hairbrush" Tjungurrayi and it was his influence which inspired Rose to begin painting.
Like her father, Rose’s paintings include depictions of sacred sites associated with the Tingari Cycle. These sites are situated along the early journey paths of the Tingari Ancestors. The journey paths of the Tingari Ancestors shaped and impacted on the landscape of Roses’ homelands.
The detail and aesthetic appeal of Rose’s work have ensured she is an artist whose potential is increasingly being recognised.
